Popular scenic drives in Germany

Germany is a beautiful country.  It is a great place for a vacation as there is so much to do and see.  You can take some absolutely fantastic scenic drives.  If you like road trips Germany is the place for you.  You can travel to quaint villages and see numerous medieval castles.  The German countryside is absolutely beautiful.

Castle Road

When you take a trip on Castle Road you will be taken back in time.  There are over 70 castles and palaces on this road.  Some of the castles are in total ruin.  Some have become museums and others are now castle hotels.  Castle road is over 625 miles of beautiful scenery.

There is so much for you to see on Castle Road you will not be able to take in everything.  Pick out a few castles to visit.  If you want to drive the entire Castle Road you will need at least 4 days for the trip.  You can spend your nights in some of the castle hotels.  A great place to spend a night is the 1000 year old Castle Hotel Colmber.  There are also many bed-and-breakfasts you can stay at.  If you do not want to drive the Castle Road you can take a bus tour.  You can also explore Castle Road by train.  Most of the towns you will pass through have train stations.  Most of the train trip runs along Castle Road so you will not miss anything.

Romantic Road

Another popular drive is the Romantic Road.  It is 261 miles long and it goes through Bavaria.  The road goes from the Franconia wine country to the Neuschwanstein castle in the German Alps foothills.  The Bavarian countryside is full of beautiful towns, monasteries, medieval castles and great hotels.

In the middle Ages the Romantic Road was a major trade route.  You can dine in a beautiful courtyard restaurant, walk trough great parks and visit historical castles.  Your drive will take you by awesome vineyards and beautiful hills.

You will go through Wurzburg which is located in wine country.  Wurzburg has great wine and restaurants.  There are many vineyards and wine festivals.  You can take a tour through the old town of Dinkelsbuhi.  You will also see Augsburg which is one of Germany’s oldest cities.  The Romantic Road is the most popular scenic drive in Germany.

Fairy Tale Road

Fairy Tale Road is 370 miles long and there are around 50 towns and cities on the route.  You will need a week to do justice to your trip.  The best way to see Fairy Tale Road is by car.  You will see towns and scenery that inspired the Grimm brothers famous fairy tales.  The fairy tales inspired were Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and several others.  You will see statues of Fairy tale character.

Wine road

Germanys Wine Road is the countries oldest scenic drive.  The scenic drive is 50 miles long.  There are several wine festivals held in the towns along the way.  You must stop in Bad Durkheim and see the worlds largest wine barrel.  The Wurstmarkt wine festival is held here every September.

The Wine Road goes through wine villages and beautiful forests.  You will be able to stop at wine shops and wine tasting rooms.  In the quaint towns and villages you can explore their market squares, old world restaurants and cobblestone streets.
