The Chinook salmon is best known as the King Salmon.  They are also sometimes called Tyee Salmon, Springer and Black mouth.  The Chinook is the best known of the salmon.  Fishermen love fishing for Chinook because they put up a good fight when hooked.  They are also a large fish.

There are three kinds of Oregon Chinook salmon.  There is the Spring Chinook which spawns in the headwaters of the Rogue River.  They also spawn in the Umpqua River, Columbia River and the Willamette River.  The Spring Chinook travels further than any other variety to spawn.  The Indians caught them in the Salmon River in Idaho.  The Spring Chinook is the best eating fish of the three varieties.

The fall Chinook salmon is found in most Oregon coastal rivers.  People fish for them in the Tidal pools along the coast.

The Winter Chinook Salmon is not very well known.  They are found in the small rivers like the Sixes River, Elk River, Chetco River and the Smith River.  The Chetco and Smith Rivers offer great fishing for these salmon.  The Winter Chinook has been known to reach 60 pounds.

If you love to fish you can take a fishing vacation in Oregon.  The Rogue River is one of the best places to go fishing for Chinook salmon.  You can fish the Rogue River for Spring Chinook Salmon.  You can also fish for Fall Chinook Salmon here.

The Fall Chinook Salmon return every year to the Rogue River, Elk River, Sixes River, Coquille River, Chetco River and the Umpqua River.

You can fish 7 days a week for Spring Chinook on the Rogue River.  The spring run salmon weigh 15 to 35 pounds.  The Summer Chinook Salmon weighs 10 to 45 pounds.  You can fish for the Summer Chinook on the Rogue River, Coquille River and Coos River.  The Fall Chinook weighs 18 to 45 pounds.  You will find the Fall Chinook on the Chetco River, Elk River and the Sixes River.  You can also fish for the Fall Chinook and Spring Chinook on the Trask River and the Wilson River.

The best time to fish for the Spring Chinook is from mid March to June.  The best time to fish for the Summer Chinook is during the summer.  The best time to fish for the Fall Chinook is during the fall months.

Tillamook Bay is a great place to fish for Chinook salmon.  The Miami River, Kilchis River, Wilson River, Trask River and Tillamook River dump into Tillamook Bay.  This is a great place for a fishing vacation.
