This is part 1, and rough. I think it is important publish when we are on the brink of serious troubles. This article and the ones that follow will probably be rewritten in the future. If not then.....

“Government sees itself above the law.”

This comment, spoken by a radio talk show guest host, got me thinking. He continued with a comment that I hereby paraphrase, ‘It has expectations that it is not subject to or governed by the rules, regulations and laws that it imposes on others.’

Add sacrifice to the above statement and this is a clearer understanding of democracy.

What is government? Is government a breathing, thinking, self-actualizing being? NO! It has no mind. It cannot see, think or act without the thoughts senses and limbs of those that move it and use it. Government has no will, no emotions or morals. It is a thing, a tool, a vehicle. Ideally people in government, known as representatives, are supposed to represent the people. So there is a distinction between government, or people in government, and the citizens, “We the People”. Government serves a purpose. It is not the end to a means, rather a means to another end, representation of the will of the citizens, “We the People”. There is no other function for government. Government was not, is not designed to exist for it own sake. It is a thing, a tool or vehicle of the people, except where it is hijacked for another purpose.

Government is a thing, a vehicle. It exists for a purpose other than its own existence. If that purpose could be accomplished We, the People, the living, breathing, working citizens, would have no need for a governing, redundant expense. Government, at best is the most inefficient organization; it is so inefficient it can NEVER be considered an income for the citizens, it is only an out-go.

A drill, for example, is a tool designed and expressly created to fashion a hole with a drill bit. If we could get that hole without the expense of the drill, we would never buy the drill. Government is also a tool. There are a few, and only a few, services government can administer that no other organization can do. But, governing means different things to different people. In its inception the idea of governance, self governance specifically, was easily defined and visible. Today government has evolved according to the self-serving desires, hidden by deception on the largest scale the world has ever seen, to fill many different uses, few with any integrity. To the ignorant masses it seems to be a means to acquire the impossible; a way of creating a fairy tale from thin air; wealth, health and  happiness from thin air. To some it is legalized robbery, an easy seizure of others’ fruits of labor. To some it is what it was designed to be, a collective defense from invasion, and a collective defense where none can advantage themselves of others’ struggles, labors and initiatives. For any and all of these definitions government is a tool, a vehicle.

But whose vehicle, in reality, is it? Who and/or what moves it? Who steers it, politicians or the people? Who gives the vehicle its power? It may be argued that government representatives steer the vehicle, in a representative fashion. Most agree that government people steer it but not in a form representing the wishes of the people not employed in governing. Some argue the people in reality direct government, but that simply is not true. How can anyone present such an argument when lobby groups and parties wield so much more power than the citizens? So, people in government steer it, lobby groups steer it, or the people steer it. Who should direct its use?

The citizens, the people, know they are not represented by politicians. The citizens know they do not drive the vehicle. Most do not want to admit this. They believe, however, that when a politician for a party takes office or votes; ie drives the vehicle; he or she does it in a manner that is representative of the platforms and principles of the party, and those platforms and principles represent the wishes and best interests of the people. But the citizens erroneously believe that if aligned with a party, or if a party represents a similar philosophical belief system, that when that party is in control of the governing bodies, these same people have representation. The terrible reality is that they don’t.

Most people believe the party represents their ideals, but the truth is that, from the first exertion of party politics, alignment or faith in a party is a surrender of the representative process. Mindful, emotional, sentient beings cannot be represented by mindless, heartless, robotic things. People cannot be represented by a vehicle designed to drive another vehicle. The representative process is purest when people represent people. Remove the parties, remove the increasing cogs in the redundant wheels and the people can drive the vehicle again.

Both parties and their respective platforms are grossly flawed at the expense of all people. The people feed the machine but don’t drive it. The machine is a glutton but it wasn’t designed so. Government cannot be blamed for anything, nor given credit. Government cannot create jobs. Government cannot create wealth. Government, a thing, a tool, cannot create anything, but it can destroy. The more government there is, the more destruction there is. Mindless vehicles cannot create.

People in government are responsible for all that government does but make no mistake; there is absolutely no creation, no production from government or government people. Government does NOT create jobs, it steals credit for growth. Government is a parasite, contributing nothing, producing nothing, creating nothing. People in government are parasites, contributing nothing, producing nothing, creating nothing. The role of government is so unproductive the citizens are safest from it when government is shackled and ineffectual. The ineffectual government, the loose union of the states with their dis-unified militias and unpaid army won a war of independence. What could be more important than individual and national independence? Yet most see government for what it truly is today, but won’t admit it. Most see government as a means of over-stepping the independence of others and legally stealing from them. Hence the burden of social programs designed to steal, by excessively wasteful programs, the wealth of others. What do politicos do except steal from the people? They live gluttonous lifestyles for no production, no creativity, no contribution of their own. Government today has given the people a deck of cards with driving instructions and maneuvers. The citizens are given entitlements to play with these cards; trading, complaining about rookie stats, sending cards to Washington, getting new cards to play with, and in all this, the citizens believe we are driving the vehicle.

People do all these things using the vehicle that was designed for a simple function only; and that is to govern for collective defense (Bastiat), provide for fair and just exchange of goods and services, and to prevent the illegal, immoral and unconstitutional concentration of power. Lying, manipulation, rhetoric, redundancy, and propaganda add immeasurable variables and destructive forces to this simple process.
