The Effects of Hyper and Hypothyroidism

There are actually two types of thyroid diseases, and those are Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism. The common symptoms for hypothyroidism are fatigue, depression, weight gain, irritability and it also decreases libido. On the other hand hyperthyroidism symptoms are weight loss, palpitation, insomnia, nervousness and fatigue to name a few. This type of disease may be simple to some but it can actually affect one's life tremendously.

I personally can attest to this since I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism three years ago. From the very start I felt the symptoms it has rapidly affected me physically, mentally and even psychologically . Before I was diagnosed with this kind of disease I even had mistakenly thought it was a heart disease. The first doctor I asked for opinion about the symptoms I was experiencing even made mistake of giving me medicines for heart disease. Practically I told her about the symptoms, so she asked me to have my heart checked through ECG, which is a device used to check the condition of the heart. I had also undergone series of blood tests but unfortunately she overlooked the possibility of thyroidism. She gave me prescriptions but nothing had changed. Some of the symptoms I had were weight loss, palpitation, fatigue, uneasiness and anxiety. I even felt anorexic and ugly during those times and I can say life was miserable for me not until I asked for second opinion. After series of tests finally it was found out that I was suffering from hyperthyroidism. With proper guidance and medication from my doctor slowly I recovered and lived a normal life. But still I have to be monitored by my doctor every three months and have to take my medicines regularly. I also have to undergo some blood tests and thyroid ultrasound every three-six months. At least now I'm taking the right medicines and proper precautionary means so not to worsen it. 

I just want to share this experience for every ones information and awareness. So that if in any case you are experiencing or will be encountering  the same symptoms I had, at least you will think of the possibility that it may be thyroidism too. Definitely it can be treated and cured if detected early, but if ignored it can lead to cancer. I hope I am able to help and educate in my own simple ways. Thank you for reading. See you again.
